President Donald Trump said Iran will be "defeated soon" as he addressed a defence technology gathering in Pennsylvania.
This comes as Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said "Tehran has no plans for negotiations at the moment and is focused on defence." Speaking at a defence summit at the US Army War College in Pennsylvania, US President Donald Trump claimed Iran will be defeated very soon.
DONALD TRUMP: "They don't like what we're doing. And they do want it settled. We'll find out whether or not we settle with them or we just finish it off. But I want to thank Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. He's been amazing. Pete, thank you very much. Great job. The country is booming, and we'll have Iran defeated soon. They'll be defeated very soon."
Trump spoke shortly after the US military launched another round of missile strikes he had previously promised against Iran as a ceasefire to end that war remains in tatters. Unmentioned during Trump's appearance was an analysis showing US military contractors will need at least three years to replenish stockpiles of Tomahawks, which are used to strike targets deep inside enemy territory, as well as Patriot and THAAD interceptors, which defend against incoming missiles and drones. Furthermore, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said "Tehran has no plans for negotiations at the moment and is focused on defence." He said Iran will "fulfil its commitments to peace negotiations only if the US "honours" theirs." Meanwhile, Iran has installed a billboard with a graphic depicting US President Trump's body lying in a coffin, as Tehran's threats against his life continue.
The billboard was installed in Enghelab square, at the heart of the Iranian capital. At the centre of the square is also newly installed statue showing late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's clenched fist. Iranian officials have vowed to avenge his death. Elsewhere, the United Nations says it is "deeply concerned" by the continuing military escalation in the Middle East region. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on all parties to take immediate steps for de-escalation and engage in dialogue and diplomacy.
